History at the lake.

About Us.
Welcome to the Strandhotel Kärntnerhof – right on Lake Wörthersee, in the heart of Pörtschach, and in the very place where summer is at its most beautiful. We live and love this hotel in this special location: with open doors, plenty of heart, and the feeling that a holiday should be more than just a room with a view.
This isn't just a place to stay; it's a little gem with a philosophy – characterized by hospitality, ease, and genuine joy in being a host. You'll feel this vision in the details, the atmosphere, and the way people interact.
Arrive, take a deep breath – and let's create memories together that taste of sun, lake, and returning.

Back in the day.
The opening of the Imperial and Royal Southern Railway in 1864 enabled Pörtschach to develop into a spa and resort town. Extensive construction took place, and Pörtschach became the most fashionable spa resort in Austria. From the turn of the century until the First World War, the Wörthersee tourism industry experienced its first great boom.
The renowned Wörthersee architecture of architect Franz Baumgartner and his master builder Anton Bulfon continues to shape the unique charm of the lakeside properties. It was during this period that the foundation stone for today's Strandhotel Kärntnerhof was laid.
